The perfect match! De Stijl, Rietveld, De Ploeg and Bruns. It is no coincidence that the kick-off for the first event in our future visitor centre was held for the festive year Mondriaan to Dutch Design.
This year we, and the rest of The Netherlands, will celebrate the centenarian existence of the art movement 'De Stijl" under the name of "‘Mondriaan to Dutch Design" (#MTDD). Inspiring events and exhibitions are being organised throughout The Netherlands. Northern Brabant is the place for Dutch Design and Eindhoven may very well be the epicentre. Now that the large-scale renovation of De Ploeg has been completed, everything comes at the same time this year for Bruns. Because Gerrit Rietveld was a prominent member of art movement De Stijl, the province of Northern Brabant decided to start the Style year with a gathering in De Ploeg. An inspiring session was held at the meeting "Design, Brabant's power" under the guidance of Frans van Dooremalen (Brabant C). The meeting also discussed the Brabant wide design programming in the 2017 theme year. It showed the enormous potential of our region, with Eindhoven as Capital of Dutch Design. Unique design labs, events and museums in Brabant cities, is what make this region the District of Dutch Design with opportunities for our regional economy, culture and international appearance. How can we further enhance and capitalize this? We can start with an inspiring morning in an inspiring environment. Visitor centre De Ploeg will open on the 1st of April when the tourist season starts. An exhibition, designed by Aart van Asseldonk and others, will also follow the theme of 100 years 'De Stijl' - From Mondriaan to Dutch Design.
Visitor centre De Ploeg will be open from Mondays through Fridays from 10.00 a.m. to 04.00 p.m. as of the 3rd of April 2017. The visitor centre will also be open outside of regular opening hours after reservation, with the option of a guide as part of a complete Rietveld safari.
